CONC OVERNIGHT TRIP ANNOUNCEMENT

Absaroka Lodge, Gardiner, Montana

From February 25 thru March 1, 2024

Registration begins on October 16, 2023 at 7:00 am

Winter in Yellowstone!

Come join your fellow Nordies February 25 through March 1, 2024 to see Yellowstone by ski. The price for this trip includes 5 nights lodging, three dinners and plenty of snacks, a snowcoach ride to the famous Norris Geyser basin including lunch, and, guided ski tours. We are really lucky to have George Wuerthner, a Montana native and former Yellowstone guide, along to show us this magnificent area. The table at the bottom of this announcement shows your cost depending on whether or not you share a room. Note that there are limited rooms available for single occupancy.

Weather and group interest will dictate the trails we do, with hiking and soaking in hot springs also an option. Daily 4-6 mile ski tours will be on rolling terrain in forests and meadows in and out of Yellowstone National Park. We will stay at the Absaroka (pronounced Abzorkuh by the locals) Lodge where the rooms we are renting have two queen beds each and views of Electric Peak. The trip leadership will bring three prepared dinners that we will simmer in crockpots during the day. You will be responsible for your own dinner the night we arrive, Sunday, February 25 and one other dinner TBD in Gardiner that we will enjoy as a group. Additionally, you will be responsible for your own breakfasts and lunches. All rooms have small refrigerators and microwave and two of the rooms have kitchen supplies that we will use to dine as a group in a separate area.

The trip will be limited to 10 intermediate level or higher skiers. You must be comfortable skiing off groomed trails with equipment and clothing that can handle the terrain and the potentially cold and windy weather. Backcountry skis (but not telemark gear) will be needed. You must be able to attend a pre-trip meeting to be scheduled approximately one month before the trip (Zoom meeting attendance possible).

Getting to Gardiner by car will take approximately 2 days so expect to spend a night on the way in Kellogg, Idaho or Missoula, Montana. You can also fly to Bozeman, Montana and take a rental car to Gardiner. You may wish to add some additional days to your trip for other activities, such as skiing at Harriman State Park or Big Sky.  For more information, contact Louise Brown (louise.brown.pdx@gmail.com).

Registration will open on October 16 at precisely 7:00 am! (no earlier!) by emailing your request (use table below) directly to Louise Brown (Louise.brown.pdx@gmail.com).  Be sure to include your roommate's name if you want to signup for two people.  Once your spot is confirmed, a week later each participant will be invoiced a non-refundable deposit of $100 and you will need to complete the required CONC Overnight Trip Application.  Final invoice will be emailed to you about 30 days before the trip.
