This week we’ll take advantage of the decent ski conditions we have; we’ll ski up Flagline Access to Junction 88 and put out the blue poles that mark the ski route to Big Meadow and the beginning of Flagline.
I am expecting that - since we recently brushed and limbed this trail - there won’t be a lot of work other than putting out the blue poles. I am not planning to bring markers but it would be good to pack hand saws Just In Case.
The weather is forecast to be snowy the next couple of days but partly sunny Wednesday, with a high in the mid 30s. About two to three feet (!) of snow is expected between this writing and Tuesday morning, so even with a day to settle we should expect some significant trail breaking on Wednesday. The work could be accomplished with just a couple of people, but I am looking for more folks to help with trail breaking and, well, to just come out and enjoy the snow.
This is a more challenging ski, with about 500 ft elevation gain and loss and about 5 miles total distance.
What to bring: Winter Ten essentials, Extra gloves (since they’re likely to get wet), water, snack/lunch. Hard hats are not required for this work. Bring a hand saw if you have one. Backcountry style skis are recommended (78 or wider).
Carpooling: We’ll meet in the parking lot at Band Parks and Rec at 9:00 AM to sort out carpooling, and plan to be underway by about 9:15. Let me know if you plan to meet us up the hill; I am expecting we’ll need to park at the Nordic Center.
