This week’s effort will be to check out the Todd Lake trail and the Water Tower trail, and also raise the blue poles on the ski and snowshoe trails in the meadows on both trails. With five feet of new snow since we were last out checking poles it’s likely that some are buried and all are frozen in, so it may take some digging and thumping to get them out.

With the added snow depth, I’ve heard reports of some trails being difficult to find markers on. We’ll bring some flagging to help define trails, since pounding nails in frozen trees can be an exercise in frustration. We’ll also bring a pole saw to help improve marker visibility.

I will throw in the rig for raising the ladder boards, and we’ll plan to at least get the ones done at the Common Corridor crossing and at Dutchman.

The weather is forecast to sunny Wednesday, with a high in the upper 30s.

This is a moderate ski, with about 300 ft elevation change and about 5 miles total distance.

What to bring: Winter Ten essentials, Extra gloves (since they’re likely to get wet), water, snack/lunch. Hard hats are required for this work; let me know if you need one.   Bring a hand saw and a shovel if you have one. Backcountry style skis are recommended (78 or wider) but not required; skinny skis suitable for groomed tracks are not recommended.

Carpooling: We’ll meet in the parking lot  at Bend Parks and Rec at 9:00 AM to sort out carpooling, and plan to be underway by about 9:15. Let me know if you plan to meet us up the hill; I am expecting we’ll need to park at the Nordic Center.
